Around the world there is a big movement that encourages Inclusive Playgrounds. In Curaçao the children with disabilities are still segregated from other children.
They go to different schools and have different social settings. Most entertainment places or after school activities are not accessible to children with disabilities. In other words, the options for extracurricular activities are very limited in Curaçao.
Being able to participate in activities and play can increase one’s self-esteem, lead to feelings of acceptance and being valued, and encourage people to feel positive about themselves. But on fully accessible playgrounds, children with disabilities can swing, slide and climb with their friends – as well as with their siblings and parents – which is literally something they may have never been able to do before. You can help this dream come true.
